FIRST PARADE
Before moving off with a loaded or unloaded vehicle, carry out inspection, checks and tests as detailed in this Sub-Section. Inspect for damage, security and serviceability.
Wheels and tyres - check for:-
(a) Loose wheel nuts
(b) Punctures
(c) Cuts, weak spots, uneven wear, exposed cords,
or clogging
of tyres (remove any flints from the treads
Fittings- check:-
(a) All cab and body fittings
(b) Spare wheel and canopy
(c) Locker and other stowage space, doors and lids
(d) Cab hatoh, bonnet, engine cover,
windscreens, driying
door windows, hinges, catches and latches.
Stowage check:-
(a) Completeness of equipment and correct stowage
(b) For loose items in cab or body
(c) Ditching tools
(d) Fire extinguisher,
Fuel, lubricants and coolant - check:-
(a) Fuel -
(i) Level in two tanks (use dipstick). Top up as necessary.
(ii) Jerrican in cage. Refill, if necessary.
(b) Lubricants -
(i) Engine oil level (use dipstick). Top up as necessary.
(1i) 0il can in cage. Refill, if necessary.
(c) Coolant -
i) Engine cooling system. Top up, if necessary.
(ii) Coolant can in cage. Refill, if necessary.
(d) General.-
For fuel, lubricant and coolant leaks. Examine
ground below vehicle for spots
Speedometer.-
Check reading. Complete records.
Brake system, -
Switch the ignition on and check that low air pressure
warning buzzer and warning light
operate at pressures below 60 lb/sq
Engine,-
Start up the engine (see Section 26). Check gauges
for engine conditions
(current consumption, temperature,
oil pressure, etc).
drain cock to clear any accumulation of
water etc. Check for unusual knocks, rattles,
and uneven running. after a few minutes,
stop the engine and re-check engine oil level.
Top up if necessary.
Electrical
(a) Battery:-
Switch on all vehicle lights and, if these lights
dip when the starter is operated, change or charge the battery.
(b) Lights. -
Check correct operation of all lights.
(c) Horn.- Test.
(d)Windscreen wipers.- Test.
(e) Switch off ignition and all lights.
Moving off and running periods.-
(a) Load. -
Make a final check of the security of load and
lashings.
(b) Moving off.-
Release handbrake. Check correct operation of steering and brakes.
(c) Running periods. -
Keep a running check on al1 instruments.
Check the fuel level, engine oil pressure, coolant temperature,
charging rate, and speeđometer, at intervals.
